I had some left over dosa/idly batter in my fridge. As we both had too much of Dosa and Idly in the last few days I thought of making Uthappam for dinner. Here goes the recipe for Onion Uthappam.
Makes 8 Uthappam
Ingredients Required:
Dosa/Idly Batter - 3 Cups (How to make?)
Onion - 1, chopped
Green Chilli - 1, chopped
Cilantro - few springs, chopped
Oil
How to make?
Heat a dosa tawa, when the pan is hot spread a tsp of oil.
Pour 2 ladles of the batter in the middle and do not spread with your ladle as you would do for dosa. Allow it to spread on its own.
Sprinkle the chopped onions, green chilli and the cilantro.
Drizzle a tsp of oil on the sides.
Close the tawa with a lid, and allow to cook on low-medium heat for 5 - 8 minutes.
Open the lid to check whether the top side of the uthappam is cooked.
Usually the uthappams are not turned over to cook on both sides, thats why we are closing with the lid so the steam would cook the top side also. The bottom of the uthappam would be dark brown in color and the top would be white in color.
Serve the uthappam hot with chilli powder/chutney/sambar of your choice!
