Vazhaikai Podimas | Green Plantain Grated Curry | Vegan | Gluten Free

I had just bought some green plantains (Vazhakai) from the Indian store. Was thinking what to make with them. I just them remembered that I had tasted Vazhakkai Podimas at a function during my last India visit. That was the first time that I had tasted such a dish and I just loved it.
This is the first time that I am making this dish and will surely make it more often.

Serves - 2
Ingredients Required:
Green Plantain - 1 big / 2 small
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
Grated Ginger - 1 tsp
Cilantro - few springs
Grated Coconut - 2 tbsp
Lime - 1
Salt to taste

For tempering:
Oil - 2 tsp
Mustard Seeds - 1/2 tsp
Urad Dhal - 1 tsp
Channa Dhal - 1 tsp
Dry Red Chillies - 2
Curry Leaves - few

How to make?
Cut the green plantain in half and cook them till semi cooked in boiling water with the skin.
Cool them and remove the skin. It would be easier to remove the skin and to grate them since they are semi cooked.
Grate them using a grater and set aside.
Heat some oil in a tawa, add the mustard seeds and allow to splutter. Add the urad dhal, channa dhal, hing, red chillies, curry leaves and fry till golden brown.
Add the grated plantain, grated ginger, salt and turmeric powder and mix well.
Sprinkle some water on top, close the pan and allow to cook for 5 minutes on low - medium heat.
Add the grated coconut and give a good mix.
Squeeze the lime juice, and garnish with chopped cilantro, toss well and serve hot.
