This is a simple spice powder made with coconut and lentils and can be mixed with rice and ghee.
Ingredients Required:
Urad Dhal - 1 cup
Channa Dhal - 1/4 cup
Grated Coconut - 2 cups
Dry Coconut - 1/4 cup (optional)
Curry leaves - few
Salt - to taste
Red Chilli - 10
Coconut Oil/Ghee - 1 tblsp
How to make?
- In a pan, dry roast the urad dhal and channa dhal along with chilli
- Roast till it becomes light pinkish in color and you get a nice aroma
- Set aside to cool
- In the same pan, add the oil or ghee, add the grated coconut and roast on medium to low flame till it is golden brown
- Cool down all the ingredients
- In a blender/mixie, add the lentils, chilli, curry leaves and blend to a coarse powder
- To this add the coconut and the dry coconut along with salt
- Blend till coarse and well incorporated
- Store in a air tight container in the refrigerator
Notes:
- I used frozen grated coconut. You can use fresh as well
- I had got dry coconut in Trader Joes. This is optional and can be avoided, but adds a nice flavor
