Jeera Rice - No Onion No Garlic, Stove Top



This is a very basic rice recipe that would be served in any indian restaurant to go along with your curry. Very simple to make yet very flavorful and completes your meal.

Serves 4
Ingredients Required:
Basmati Rice - 1 cup
Ghee - 2 tblsp
Ginger - 1 tsp, finely chopped
Bay Leaves - 2 + 1
Cloves - 2 + 2
Cinnamon Stick - 1 + 1 inch
Green Chilli - 2 , slit lengthwise
Salt - 1 tblsp

How to make?
  • Wash the basmati rice and soak in water for 30 minutes
  • Boil 8 cups of water in a large pan and add 1 tblsp of salt, bring to a boil
  • Add 1 bay leaf, 2 cloves and 1 inch stick of cinnamon to the water
  • Add the soaked rice and cook in open pot for 5-7 minutes
  • Keep checking the rice, so it does not over cook. 
  • Drain the water and run cold water through the drained rice to stop cooking. Set aside
  • In a small pan, heat ghee and add the cumin seeds, ginger, green chilli, bay leaves, cloves, cinnamon
  • Add this seasoning to the rice and gently toss.
  • Serve with gravy of you choice
