A simple stir fry with tofu, chilli and soy sauce. Serve as an appetizer before fried rice, noodles or any other indo chinese or Thai dish.
Ingredients Required:
Extra Firm Tofu - 1 block , cut into bite size cubes ( I also use the sprouted tofu from trader joes)
Oil - 2+2 tblsp
Chilli Powder - 1 tsp
Chilli flakes - 1 tsp
Soy sauce - 2 tblsp
Spring Onions - 1 bunch, finely chopped with the whites separated from the greens
Garlic - 3 cloves, finely chopped
Ginger - 1 inch piece, finely chopped
How to make:
In a heavy bottom pan, heat 2 tblsp of oil and when hot add the tofu cubes, such that each cube touches the oil.
Fry on high heat and after a few minutes turn the tofu sides to fry the other sides.
Repeat this till all sides and light brown in color.
Set this aside.
In the same pan, add the remaining oil and when hot add the chilli powder, chilli flakes, ginger, garlic and the white parts of the onions.
Fry till well cooked.
Add the soy sauce and when bubbles appear, toss in the tofu cubes and saute till it is coated on all sides.
Fry for a few minutes and serve hot garnished with the green part of the onions.
Notes:
If you are using low sodium soy sauce, you can add salt, else do a taste test before adding more salt.
