Tawa Pizza | No Yeast

Tried my hands at making Pizza on the tawa. And since I ran out of yeast, this recipe uses baking soda and baking powder instead of yeast, hence you do not need to proof the dough.
Top your pizza with toppings of your choice, I just used what I had in hand. This is a quick and easy Pizza, when you need to prepare it quickly for the kids.. and also for adults!

I used my iron pan that I use to make my rotis.

How to make?
Base:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, add the flour, salt and yogurt. Crumble with your fingers.
  2. In a small bowl, add the oil and the baking soda and powder. Whisk well with a fork.
  3. Add this to the flour and mix well.
  4. Slowly add water to form a soft dough.
  5. Knead for 5 minutes.
  6. Apply 1 tblsp oil and set aside for an hour closed.
Toppings:
  1. In a pan,  heat oil.
  2. When hot add the vegetable toppings and saute for a couple of minutes such that the crunch is maintained. Set aside.
Pizza:
  1. Divide the dough into two balls.
  2. Start by placing the dough on a flat surface and slowly making a circle either with your fingers or a rolling pin.
  3. Make around an 8 inch circle (make sure it fits your pan!)
  4. Heat the pan, apply oil and place this on the hot pan.
  5. If required, press with fingers so it covers the pan.
  6. Prick holes with a fork.
  7. Cook closed on low heat for 3 minutes.
  8. Open the pan, spread 2 tblsp of pizza sauce.
  9. Spread 1/2 cup shredded cheese.
  10. Spread 1/2 of the vegetables.
  11. Close with lid and cook for 5 minutes on medium low or till the cheese has melted.
  12. Cool to eating temperature and serve with seasoning of your choice.

Notes:
1. You can use 100% all purpose flour or play around with the proportion.
2. You can use cheese of your choice.
3. You can use vegetables of your choice.
4. Since the pizza is made in 5 minutes, adding raw vegetables on the pizza as we do while baking might not cook the vegetables, hence we are sauteing them a little before hand
5. I used an 8 inch iron pan.
6. Make sure to cook the Pizza on low flame else will burn the base
7. The base is cooked a little before hand to ensure thorough cooking of the dough.
