Chole | Channa Masala

Channa Masala is a spiced gravy made with white channa or garbanzo beans and can be served with chappati or poori.



Serves 4
Ingredients Required:
White Chickpeas - 1 cup
Baking Soda  - 1 tsp
Onion - 1 cup, finely chopped
Tomato - Puree, 2 cups
Ginger Garlic Paste - 1 tblsp
Oil - 1 tblsp
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Butter - 1 tblsp
Salt - to taste
Cilantro - finely chopped, to garnish

How to make?
  1. Soak the chickpeas in water for 8 hours to overnight
  2. Pressure cook the chickpeas for 5 whistles (or in an instant pot in Manual mode for 35 minutes) along with salt and baking soda
  3. Once cooked, set the channa aside
  4. In a pan, heat the oil and add the cumin seeds
  5. Add the onion and ginger garlic paste. Saute till it becomes golden brown and oil separates
  6. Add the tomato puree and cook closed for 10 minutes on medium heat, till the tomatoes are well cooked and the oil separates
  7. Add the cooked peas and the channa masala powder
  8. Add salt as required
  9. Mix well and add 1/2 cup water
  10. Close and simmer for 10 minutes till the flavors blend in
  11. Top with butter and garnish with cilantro
  12. Serve hot with choice of Indian Bread
