Channa Masala is a spiced gravy made with white channa or garbanzo beans and can be served with chappati or poori.
Serves 4
Ingredients Required:
White Chickpeas - 1 cup
Baking Soda - 1 tsp
Onion - 1 cup, finely chopped
Tomato - Puree, 2 cups
Ginger Garlic Paste - 1 tblsp
Oil - 1 tblsp
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Butter - 1 tblsp
Salt - to taste
Chole Masala Powder - 3 tblsp
Cilantro - finely chopped, to garnish
How to make?
- Soak the chickpeas in water for 8 hours to overnight
- Pressure cook the chickpeas for 5 whistles (or in an instant pot in Manual mode for 35 minutes) along with salt and baking soda
- Once cooked, set the channa aside
- In a pan, heat the oil and add the cumin seeds
- Add the onion and ginger garlic paste. Saute till it becomes golden brown and oil separates
- Add the tomato puree and cook closed for 10 minutes on medium heat, till the tomatoes are well cooked and the oil separates
- Add the cooked peas and the channa masala powder
- Add salt as required
- Mix well and add 1/2 cup water
- Close and simmer for 10 minutes till the flavors blend in
- Top with butter and garnish with cilantro
- Serve hot with choice of Indian Bread
