We love apple pies and mostly eat them out. Tried this at home this time and was super yummy when paired with some Vanilla Ice Cream!
I got the pie pastry sheets from the local grocery store and just made the filling and topped it up with some crumble to make a Apple Crumble Pie.
Makes 1 pie
Ingredients Required:
Store Bought Pie Crust - 1
Filling:
Apples - 4, peeled and sliced thinly
Water - 3 tblsp
Sugar - 1/3 cup
Cinnamon - 1 tsp
Butter - 2 tblsp
Corn Flour - 1 tblsp
Water - 2 tblsp
Crumble:
All purpose flour - 1/3 cup
Brown Sugar - 1/4 cup
Cinnamon - 1 tsp
Butter - 2 tblsp (room temperature)
How to make:
Apple Pie Filling:
- On a pan, heat the butter on medium heat
- Once melted, add the cinnamon and apple slices
- Add in the sugar and 3tblsp water
- Close and cook for 5 minutes on medium heat
- Make a slurry with corn flour and 2 tblsp water
- Add this slurry to the mixture, give a good mix
- Close and cook for a minute till the mixture thickens
- Allow to cool
Crumble Top:
- In a mixing bowl add in the all purpose flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and the butter
- Crumble with fingertips
Assemble and bake the Pie:
- In the store bought pie crust, fill it with the filling and top it with the crumble
- Bake at 350 for 25 minutes or till the crust is golden brown
- Allow to cool, slice and serve!
Notes:
- For gluten free version, make sure to use gluten free pie crust and use rice flour or any other GF flour in place of all purpose flour for the filling
- For Vegan version, use a vegan pie crust and replace butter
